Yellowfinn, a free-form jam band, was born in a cozy rainbow-colored basement on a quiet hilltop hideway near Kelso, WA. We started getting together a few times a month beginning in 2004 to mix and brew our diverse styles into a delicious musical stew. Kinda like a techno-funky Pink Floyd, Phish, Rush, Zappa, Zeppelin...even a Grateful Dead cover every once in awhile. We kept track of our efforts by recording all of our practice sessions and shows. I have lost count, but we've got more than 200 original songs and at least 300 hours of live music "in the can"... Yellowfinn spend most of our time recording capturing our magical moments on the hard drive. After a couple of years tracking to Vin's surplus hotwired computers, Chris made a serious financial commitment to build the BlueFushion studio space. YellowFinn was quickly spoiled by the cozy comforts of Chris's studio and they recorded many special sessions. It was a great way to refine our special sound, sharing the precious moments of brilliance, and reaping the benefits of a pro sound studio. Thanks CHRIS !! Of course with all their time spend in the studio the boys of Yellowfinn did not get out on tour, but we have no regrets...the several shows we did play were great and all those recordings will last forever !!
December 2007 Nice show at the 9 Muses in Portland... maybe a little more volume then they are used too.. Thanks y'all !! (especially Uncle Buck on the 'board).. November 2007 With the holidays fast approaching, the YF boys will be easing off the accelerator for awhile.. puttin it away for another year.. Chris holds a "Forum" to discuss the future, the past, and the pizza. Sky is shocked, Karl is "Oblivious", and Vin tries to "Let it flow".. October 2007 or is it Shocktober ? A new Bulldog puppy in the studio gets his teeth into Chris's maracca's .. ouch ! Jelly Roll is baby-sittin for Sky... Times like these! September 2007 Brother Karl brings some tasty Applesauce bread. Chris is almost a victim of a puppy scam ... sept he figured it out just in time August 2007 Whut whut ?? July 2007 A wedding and a long vacation for the 'finners... Congrats to C and J !! June 2007 Summer dont leave !!! The Yellowfinns spend some time By The Pool. Even if it is only deep enough to get our feet wet. May 2007 The Yellowfinn boys are having a busy summer so only one session this month, Imagine That... Vin gets suntan on his hands in the Great American West, Sky moves up the corporate ladder, Chris is makin' big plans, and Karl is working hard for the Man April 2007 -Three years in the books and we are still rawking !! Year 4 we will continue to fine tune the tuna ! Sky had a close call trying to make it to practice without a ride, so he bought a car just to make it to the session !! That's dedication !! Sky also has the myspace.com/yellowfinn page looking and sounding sweet, check it !! March 2007- We're loving the setup at BlueFushon, including the new paint scheme. The sound is dialed in so we just show up, plug in, and roll tape (or spin hard drive) 100101001.... February 2007 -The sounds were sweet from the BlueFusion studios, even though Karl was Stewd January 2007 The weather has been crazy... we had record rains (Wet Week) and then some cold temps (Brrr) but the BlueFushion studio sessions sound great ! Check out the samples page !! Karl returns from Los Angeles with his batteries recharged. When he's in the sun they call him L.A. K December Yellowfinn takes the holiday time off.. But we can't wait to gather together again soon.. November Yellowfinn is thankful for all the family and friends who support us! We've been workin in the new practice space getting the sound dialed in... the recordings are sounding sweet.. stay tuned !! October - Chris drops some major cash and the band sets up in the new BlueFushion Studios..Thank you Homie !! Ridgefield Rocks !! Sky has been workin' overtime on the My Space site, check it out ! Mid September ..A family feud breaks out and threatens the future of the band..but after a heart-to-heart exchange of e-mails, all is forgiven. The magic we be makin' is worth the effort that it's takin' ....and Chris is in LOVE Sept 3 Family day.. Bring the kids, put in the ear plugs, and dance to the 12 Barbie Blues Mid August The band returns to their secret hilltop hideout to record an EMO-tional session July 29 Yellowfinn and Friends at the Goble Tavern Goble, OR Good Times in Goble ! (where the hell is Goble, OR??) All day music fest with Christopher the Acoustic guy, Fixius, Sky's other band, and us. Sky was partying all day and a little sleepy by the time we started playing but made thru our set (over two hours straight..) Big Thanks to all our friends for a rockin' good time July 16 Karl wants Sky to name the session, so I guess you should Ask the Sky July 1 Sashimi available.. Our first CD "Sashimi" has been prepped, prepared, and is available for sale..stay tuned for details on how to purchase you very own copy June 17 Barter Fair at Troutdale, WA ...We set up in a hayloft barn and played a warm and fuzzy set in the afternoon, and then relaxed and camped out for rest of the day. Flowmotion rocked later that evening. June 10 Yellow Inn (aka "No F") Karl thinks the name of the session cannot start with F again.. June 3 Full House session is open to friends and family.. better bring your own earplugs May 28, 2006 Sky has destroyed his third footpedal. It seems like after every session, we find little nuts and bolts around his drumset... and this week we are also fixing a Flat Tire April 23, 2006 Seamount... ok i'll be honest.. I don't know why this weeks CD is called this.. April 8, 2006 It's a YellowFinn Anniversary..There was much rejoicing !!.. 2 years since the Wheel Of Drummers stopped spinning and landed on Sky's Name, and we are blessed...Chris is in charge of the final mix and the food.. Space Needle Noodles ??? April 1, 2006 The YellowFinn Fools... Karl puts a fake "Drummer Wanted" Ad in a local newspaper. And put's Sky's phone number as the contact person... OUCH... All in good fun... The Band springs foreward with a Daylight Saving Time recording session and celebration... but you gotta make your own sandwich, Fool! March (I think) Dead Man Swimmin... not really, March 11, 2006 Karl felt bad about a possible hard-drive mishap erasing part of the session, but all we had to do was "Do Undo" Falala Center .. While Karl upgrades the soundproofing in the Rainbow Room, the Band has set up shop in an undisclosed house north of the state line.. Feb 12, 2006 Every once in a while, the boys switch instruments in the middle of a song..we call 'em Trading Places Jams..anything can happen !! Today while Sky was rippin' a solo on guitar, Chris was "On Wah" workin the wah effects pedal.. Feb 5, 2006 Poor Seahawks !! They were robbed at Super Bowl XL !! Sky the Drummer is from Pittsburgh though.... so he was just havin a good 'ol time...We took a break from watchin the game to put on our own YellowFinn Halftime Show that rocked !! Sometimes the band leaves the recording session feeling down...like it wasn't top notch.. but then we listen to it and are surprised by how good it turned out.. the recordings don't lie!! Jan 8 2006 Get your Licks with YellowFinn in 2006 ! But be careful, that hot sauce is dangerous!! The Karl breaks out a bottle of extreme hot sauce..Look Out!!...U Can't Handle This !! But Sky is up to the challenge and takes a full fork's worth...Good Grief !! Sky kept a Poker (not Polka) face, fought back the tears and dealt with the pain by convincing Chris to put plenty on his huevos !! Muy Caliente !! We were a little groggy from all the turkey and fixins..but it doesn't take long to get it rollin this week Nov 12, 2005 Vin regains control of the mix down... Dance of the Gnomes Enchanted !! It's a lotta work mixing down 3 hours worth of music, but we listen to all these recordings during the week between practice..IT IS WHAT IT WILL BE !! Oct 30, 2005 Fall Back ! The boys set back their clocks and gain an extra hour to rock ! Sky is a weatherman ! Oct 16, 2005 YellowFinn continues to raise the bar ! Disc #48, "The Salty Squid Experience", is another inspired high octane session... Chris brought some squid that he caught on his last fishing trip to Mexico.... uh ... it was a nice gesture but way too salty ..Karl The Cook said he left some out on the back porch all nite for the critters to eat but it was still there the next morning... surrounded by dead slugs... Oct 2, 2005 Why are Chris's amp levels different every time we show up in the studio? Nobody has been in the room since our last practice....must be the Knob Knomes !! Sneakin' in to tweak your knobs !! Knaughy knob tweakers !! Karl tries to set the mood with some candles.. but vin's rumblin' bass causes a wax accident...it was waxidental.. Sept 25 Vegan Beenz It's a nice day to be rockin' ... and fall is in the air. Chris returns from a Mexico fishin' trip to feed the band..striped marlin and grilled tuna of course !! YUM !! And the tunes were smokin' tooo...including a marathon 74 minute song...Sky is an Orchestra.. August 14 With or Without -- Halfway thru August and it was hot today.. upper 90's..but it stays cool deep down in the underground bunker where the Yellowfinn goes to play....Chris is still sufferin' without his favorite guit but he keeps it together using Vin's pawn shop rubber band special...Karl goes squeeky-clean after shaving his billy-goat-tee...the session ends when Sky (who is British..) accidentally handcuffs himself to his high-hat ...and Vinnie just goes with the flow.. August 7 Respawnd (Salmon and Halibut 2) After a summer break, the boys return to the Yellow Room to jam...Chris's ax is still in the shop but he made due with his back-up...Sky had blisters on his blisters but played thru the pain....Vin brought great biscuits and great corn...Iron Chef Karl cooks up some of Chris's fishes he caught in Alaska.....yum... July The studio work continues with some fine tunin' and tweakin'.. Chris travels north to Alaska for some fishin'.. June 25-26 It has been 13 months, 40 recording sessions, more than 260 original tunes and at least 72 hours of live music and now Yellowfinn is in the studio starting to work on their first "album". This weekend was very productive..after Rich of Peregrine Sound Recording lifted the curse on Homie's guitar..Sky's stamina on drums was amazing (Sky is a robot) givin' it all up for the cause !! His little nap while Chris was cussin' must have charged his batteries !!... Big love for Papa K lookin out for all us lil' ones, cookin cinnamon buns and giving us all a warm place to stay !! June 18 A short time ago in a studio not that far away...Revenge of the Hoagie !! The band overcomes a few obstacles..Karl puts down the hammer and nails long enough to tickle the keys, Chris conquers his outta tuna'd guitar, Sky is a little worn-out from..well...uh.. you know, Vin is tangled up in the many chords and wires... and we regret to inform you a few band members were harmed by a large menacing sandwich June 12 With their busy schedules, only a short practice would be possible, so the boys decide all-finn or no-finn..and cancel this week's session.. Karl sez that's okay...he is still recovering from the marathon BarnBurner gig.. E G B A !!!! May 29 Shock-n-Awesome !! The 2nd annual Bar-B-Q Alive gig is an two-day party with Chris's family and all our friends..Thanks to y'all for the great food and good times !! This year the band stage was in the barn...which is scheduled for demolition in a matter of days.. the dust was shaken from the rafters by the rockin sounds of the 'finn... but the old wiring was causing Homie some pain when he kept getting shocked by the microphone...Ouch May 21 The boys travel to Portland for a friendly neighborhood gig at the Fishbowl studios.. Just open the doors and bring a cooler to sit on May 1 MayDay 2 The mighty Yellowfinn tunes travel from the Yellow room up to the clouds and cause a terrific thunderstorm..somebody close the windows !! April 24, For another inspired session, just make a left down Astro Drive.. April 10 Yama Llama ding-dong ! Karl's little finnlet Kalvin takes a ride on a llama and survives! There was much rejoicing !! Mar 20, 2005 Karl blows his top !! Almost.. The boys try to cheer up Karl with many happy tunes after he puts in many frustrating hours re-wirin' the Yellow Room.. March 13, 2005 The band spends the session workin out some new tweeks and parts to some of their fine finn tunes...and The Finnlets will soon follow... Mar 6, 2005 De-Finnative !! Sky is conVINced to show up for practice and the boys make it worth his effort with an inspired session.. Sky is a Robot !!! Feb 26, 2005 Yellowfinn and 60 Grit rock the The Red Room in Portland, OR ! There was even an Illegal Yedi reunion set..very nice.. Thanks the all the folks involved..especially Lucky-Lucy for providing the light show...Hope to see all you guppie-groupies at the next show (TBA) (FnA)... Feb 13, 2005 Bald is Beautiful...Sky shows up with a clean-shaven skull...Vin feels bald on the inside...Chris is angry at the sound levels and takes out his frustration on his fretboard....Karl cooks up some yummy grub during the Bald Fish Taco session.. January 29, 2005 Showtime ! Thanks to the kind folks at The Matrix Coffeehouse in Chehalis, WA for swimmin' with the 'finn !! Next time we'll spend more time rockin and less time setting up the elaborate stage show... Jan 9, 2005 "Don't Bother Knockin" cuz the boys is a caulkin' ....uh well something like that.. the band room undergoes a remodel/redesign and everyone is pleased with the results... and after the studio redo, chicken burritos for everyone !!! Jan 2, 2005 Welcome to 2005 Yellowfinners !! The band survives New Years Eve and records the "Leftover Soup" session. That K-man stirs up a strong stew...Lotsa fine tunin and select spoonfuls were captured on the hard drive this week.. and Everthing Gonna Be Alright The Year of the Tuna comes to an end. About 40 CD's, 200 new songs, and over 50 hours of live music created and captured on CD. We have come a long way, but look forward to raising up to the next level. We've had tons of fun, many special moments, and plenty of good food. This has gotta be the best-fed band around.. December 19, 2004 "Perigrine" was the last session of the year. December 5, 2004 One of the boys spends the nite at the Greybar Motel...uh oh.. but a fine session ensues titled "Breakfast in the Slammer" November 20th, 2004 Salty! Satisfying! Chris brings a huge bag of peanuts to practice...kinda tough to peel the shells and play guitar at the same time though... November 14, 2004 There is a new little fry in the family... Sky (Double Daddy) stays home to be with the newborn baby.. so the boys have to try and make due without a drummer.. October 31, 2004 The Hell-o-weeners gather for an funky and spooky early morning Halloween session. Rockin-n-rollin in the afternoon and trickin' and treatin' later that evening ...and Sky may be a proud papa (again) at any time..he is "on-call" ... October 10, 2004 Fall is in the air.. the leaves are changin.. Karl gets quite a workout grinding up some apples with his old rickety apple cider press, and making a potent batch of apple cider. The sweet elixer inspires the boys to crank out another smooth session October 3 2004 Inspired by the recent rumblings of nearby Mt. St. Helens and some tasty grilled hot links, the band is renamed "Lavadogs". Shoeless Kenny (Sky) on is on drums, Jonnie Vox (Chris) on guitar with a new plutonium powered stomp box, Special K on keys and Roc Steady (vin) on the 5-string bass. The new name only sticks for one session though.. Sept 26 2004 The "Tribal" session concludes with a ceremonial bonfire. The finn-sters sit around the fire and plan world domination.. It is Yellowfinn's Fifteenth CD so far this year Sept 19 2004 It's the YellowFinn Family Hour !! The boys have to try to keep it clean today because Mama and toddler are upstairs tryin' to enjoy the day. Such nice tunes to take a nap with... Sept 11-12 2004 An epic marathon session ending spanning two days finnished in the wee hours. Day one was dubbed "Halibut" and day two "Salmon" in reference to the late nite dinner fare which fed the crew and provided the fuel to keep 'em rockin'... Aug 21 2004 It's a YellowFinn Pajama-jam !! The "Sleepover" session was delayed by Karl's flat tire, so the boys just stayed up late and layed down nine more songs before putting away their instruments and crawling into their sleeping bags at a rocknroll slumber party.. Aug 1 2004 Another upgrade in the studio..."Is it live or is it Yellowfinn" session was recorded live with a few more mics... and studio-mix master K-man settin the levels.. The YellowFinn Nation is taking over the world!! July 25 2004 The boys try to take the recording quality to the next level, from analog to digital...."Hard Drive" session was recorded direct to digital on one of Vin's surplus computers...Digital-finn man... July 11 2004 "Hoagie" Finally back in the rock n roll bunker after several weeks, the Finners got together for some long-overdue jammin !! We regret to inform you that a couple of Hoagies were harmed in the making of this weeks CD.. June 12, 2004 BBQ'd Alive !! The Last Debut Tour begins at a swingin party gig..After the third set the band broke up when Karl said he had enough and walked out on us down a dark driveway..but peace-maker Sky reeled him back. It was not without a cost though, as Sky dropped trow and endured a painful spank to appese the mighty Keyboard Karl... June 6, 2004 The band is gettin ready for a summer gig next week..maybe we should actually chart out some of our tunes instead of just makin' them up on the fly... nahhhhh.... May 31, 2004 "Eat the Band" session. Yellowfinn is chosen for the band-name...After much debate the name has cleared the legal department and is now offical. A quiet ceremony concluded with a feast which included some of the grilled tuna Chris caught on his fishin trip... May 22, 2004 "Tree Fort" The recording continues live from The Yellow Room (which was previously known as The Rainbow Room before the last paint job..) May 16, 2004 "VinylFinn" Vin has control of the mixdown for this week's CD !! The recordings are done live on tape, transferred to CD, and mailed to the band.. it's a special day for all when that weeks's CD's shows up in the mail... May 2, 2004 "MayDay" session with Chris and Vin trading between guitar and bass.. April 18, 2004 "The Unknown Session" Lost but not forgotten. The gang is just starting to figure out the loose, improvised style that will become the sound...these really special moments captured with two mikes and a tape deck, old school style. April 4, 2004 "Sky Pilot" session... It's time to pick a drummer for the band...this was the first session with Sky on drums and right away the boys knew they had hooked on a whopper... February 2004...In the beginning Karl (the guy with the keyboards) and Vin (the one with the camera) hook up with Portland area guitar wizard/deepsea fishin dude Chris to record some one-take live jam sessions with a rotating wheel-o-drummers.....
